Area of combined shape is nothing but more than one shape is combined together we can find the area of the combined shapes. Here we are going to see some example problems for finding the area of the combine shapes. Normally area is nothing but the space occupied by the 2 dimensional shape. The combined shape may contain the circular or any polygon.

**Example 1 for area of combined shapes:**

Find the area of the following figure.

**Solution:**

Here the given figure is a combination of semicircle and a rectangle. To find the area of the combined shapes we have to find the area of each shape separately.

In the above the diameter of the semicircle is 6m.

So the radius of the given semicircle is 3 m.

Area of the semi circle is `(1 / 2) pir^2`

Area = `(1/2) ` `xx` 3.14 `xx` 3 `xx` 3

= 14.13 m^{2}

Area of the rectangle = l X w

Here length of the rectangle is = 2 m

Width of the rectangle = 6 m

So area = 6 `xx` 2 = 12 m^{2}

So area of the combined shapes = 14.13 + 12 = 26.13 m^{2}

Find the area of the following figure.

**Solution:**

Here the given figure is a combination of triangle and a rectangle. To find the area of the combined shapes we have to find the area of each shape separately.

In the above the height of the triangle is 8 – 5 = 3 cm.

Area of the triangle is `(1 / 2) ` b h

Area = `(1/2)` `xx` 6 `xx` 3

= 9 cm^{2}

Area of the rectangle = l `xx` w

Here length of the rectangle is = 6 m

Width of the rectangle = 5 m

So area = 6` xx ` 5 = 30 cm^{2}

So area of the combined shapes = 9 + 30 = 39 cm^{2}
